Welcome to our Moving Checklist – 2 Months to Go Summary page. This page provides you with the summary of what to expect at the start of the moving process. There is a lot of work involved when planning a move so get a helpful start by using the ideas on the checklist below.

Remember: Keep calm! It’ll all be worth it in the end!

…2 MONTHS TO GO

o       Make a List 

Make a list of expected items that will be included in the move. (You will see 2 months later how much extra you have added to the list!)

o       Special Arrangements

Make arrangements for pets, plants or any items that require specific moving arrangements. Specialized movers can take longer than standard moving companies.

o       Spring Clean 

Start to clear out, sell, throw away items that are no longer needed            

o       Get Quotes         

Get quotes from 3 different companies. Do a background check for reputation

References and the Better Business Bureau are ways of doing this.

o       Check Reputation

Check to see that they belong to a regulatory body/organisation. This will allow for some recourse if there are problems.

A reputable company should be able to provide you with a ‘Your Right’s and Responsibilities’ list.

o       Insurance     

Investigate additional insurance. Home insurance usually does not cover moving.  

o       Storage Goods            

Start to collect packing material: boxes, masking tape, rope, newspapers, garbage bags, labels, bubble wrap and markers.

o       Budget

Assess the costs involved and make a budget. Things to look out for:

-         Change of Address Costs

-         Cleaning Company

-         Garbage Removal/Skip

-         Insurance

-         Moving Company

-         Packing Materials

-         Surveyors/Assessor Fees

-         Travel Costs
