Personal Security is Paramount. Be Secure!
People
tend to think that their personal security will be the same away as it
is at home. What you must remember is that you are out of your security zone
and thus should not take things for granted. The idea of this section is to
make you aware when you travel, not to frighten you into
not going!

Travelling
is one of the most exciting things you can do – remember to have loads of
fun and be safe at the same time!
What can I do for Personal Security?
- Heed all the safety advice
given to you eg. from
your tour operator, hotel, tour guide.
- Find and note all local
numbers for your hotel, police, hospital, emergency.
- Use the hotel safe to
store valuables.
- Carry a whistle which
can act as a good deterrent in an attack.
- Ensure that you lock
your room door at night when going to sleep.
- For additional safety, there
are portable travel alarms and smoke detectors that you can
buy for more peace of mind.
- Keep away from dangerous
areas, especially at night
- If you consume alcohol, drink with moderation. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and can give you a false sense of security.
- Check the local conditions before swimming in the sea. Do not swim after drinking
alcohol.
- Keep a mobile phone
on you at all times so people will know where you are.
- If you're planning any long distance walking, always inform
someone of your plans, and your expected arrival times
- If driving, make sure that you are well stocked and the car is serviced.
If you lose or have
something stolen, report the incident to the local police within 24 hours, and
get written conformation that you have done this.
It will be wise to have travel
insurance as well.
